
Superluminal is a perpetual futures exchange built around execution quality.
Its matching engine is Prism, Superluminal’s implementation of a Dual Flow Batch Auction. Conventional order books process trades through a continuous queue. Prism groups orders into short auctions, evaluates them together, and clears each auction at one price. Inside a batch, arriving first does not earn a better place in line.
Fogo’s 40ms block cadence lets Prism run at the speed of the chain while keeping the trading experience responsive. The interface and API connect to the same execution layer, whether an order comes from a person, a market maker, or an automated strategy.
Your fill should depend on the price offered, not who reached the queue first.
Most central limit order books use price-time priority in which the best price trades first. When two orders quote the same price, the earlier order receives priority. The rule is predictable, but it turns latency into an advantage, something which everyday users cannot compete on. Faster infrastructure can secure queue position, while market makers price the risk of being picked off into wider spreads.
Jump Crypto published the original Dual Flow Batch Auction proposal in August 2025. A DFBA separates orders into maker and taker flow, then runs two auctions: taker buys against maker sells, and taker sells against maker buys. Makers do not trade against other makers.
During each batch:
The design changes the market maker’s job. A better quote and more displayed size improve access to taker flow, whereas a server arriving two milliseconds earlier does not. Lower adverse-selection risk gives makers room to quote tighter and show more depth. Traders can also receive price improvement when the clearing price is better than their limit.
Superluminal calls its implementation Prism. It runs at Fogo’s block cadence, turning a periodic auction into execution that feels continuous.
Prism removes time priority inside each batch and shifts competition from latency to price and size. Production performance should be judged by effective spread, realized slippage, fill rate, and displayed depth.
